Wells’ three-run homer propels Yankees to 10-4 victory over Royals

The New York Yankees continued their winning ways on Monday night, pulling away for a 10-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Austin Wells was the hero of the game, hitting a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning and adding an RBI double in the eighth to widen the Yankees’ lead in the AL East.

The Yankees’ win put them ahead of last season’s win total and moved them 1 1/2 games ahead of the Orioles in the division. Aaron Judge played a crucial role in the game, hitting a tying single before Wells’ game-changing home run.

Wells’ homer was his seventh in his last 36 games, showcasing his power as the team’s cleanup hitter. Hunter Renfroe had earlier given the Royals a 4-3 lead with a homer, but the Yankees rallied against the Kansas City pitching to score the final seven runs of the game.

Gleyber Torres, Juan Soto, and Jasson Domínguez all contributed to the Yankees’ offensive outburst, with Alex Verdugo hitting a critical two-run homer to give New York a brief lead. Wells’ double in the eighth solidified the win as the Yankees scored double-digit runs for the 13th time this season.

Salvador Perez had a strong game for the Royals, hitting a home run and driving in three runs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Yankees’ potent offense. The Yankees’ pitching staff also performed well, with Carlos Rodón allowing just three earned runs in six innings and the bullpen holding strong to secure the win.

Injuries plagued the Yankees, with INF DJ LeMahieu being placed on the injured list due to a hip impingement. However, INF Jon Berti returned to the lineup after missing 90 games with a calf strain.

Looking ahead, Royals RHP Seth Lugo will face off against Yankees RHP Marcus Stroman in the next game. The Yankees will look to continue their winning streak and solidify their position in the AL East standings.
