Wake Forest swaps Ole Miss for Oregon State in series

Wake Forest Announces Future Football Games with Oregon State

Wake Forest recently made an exciting announcement regarding their upcoming football schedule. The Demon Deacons have revealed a series of games against Oregon State, set to kick off next year. This arrangement comes after a previous trip to Mississippi was canceled, causing frustration for Rebels coach Lane Kiffin.

The series with the Beavers was confirmed by Wake Forest on Wednesday morning. The team from North Carolina will travel west to Corvallis in 2025, with Oregon State making the return journey to Winston-Salem in 2029, or possibly even earlier.

Wake Forest ensured that they would fulfill the terms of their original contract with Ole Miss, which originated back in 2014. While the details of the buyout were not disclosed, the decision to add Oregon State to their schedule was made with the best interests of the program and student-athletes in mind.

John Currie, the athletics director at Wake Forest, expressed the school’s commitment to hosting national games in Winston-Salem. He emphasized the financial considerations and the importance of securing resources to benefit the student-athletes, which influenced the decision to cancel the game in Oxford and schedule the two-game series with Oregon State.

The recent matchup between Wake Forest and Ole Miss saw the Rebels emerge victorious with a 40-6 scoreline. However, the aftermath of the game was soured by Kiffin’s displeasure at Wake Forest’s decision not to make the return trip next year. Kiffin criticized the school for breaking an “unwritten rule” and causing inconvenience by forcing Ole Miss to find a replacement opponent.

Oregon State’s addition to Wake Forest’s schedule marks an interesting development, as the Beavers join Washington State as Pac-12 holdovers amidst conference realignment. The Pac-12 itself announced changes, including the addition of four Mountain West teams in 2026.

Notably, no current ACC member has ever played at Corvallis during their time in the league. However, former Pac-12 rivals California and Stanford have plenty of history with Oregon State.
