Uvalde Police employee placed on leave for failing to release Robb Elementary shooting videos

UVALDE, Texas – The Uvalde Police Department made headlines recently when it was discovered that they failed to release some video footage related to the response to the Robb Elementary shooting. Now, in a surprising turn of events, the department has announced that a staff member has been placed on paid leave in light of this incident.

Following a district judge’s order, the department released a trove of records to media outlets, including KSAT, on Aug. 10. This move came after various media outlets sued the city, school district, county, and the Department of Public Safety in 2022.

Just two days after the release of records, UPD Chief Homer Delgado ordered an audit of the department’s servers. An officer had informed him that a portion of an officer’s body-worn camera footage was missing from the files that were released. The audit revealed additional footage, leading to disciplinary action against an unnamed staff member who has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation and any appeals.

The department emphasized in a news release that they are committed to transparency, accountability, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism among their personnel.

When asked about the number of uncovered clips and the release date of the videos, department spokesperson Fernando Fernandez stated that he did not have that information available at the moment.
