TX AG Paxton warns Bexar, Harris counties on voter reg form plans

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is raising concerns about the voter registration practices of Bexar and Harris counties, calling their plans to mail voter registration forms to unverified recipients problematic.

Both counties are contemplating using taxpayer money to enlist third-party vendors to send voter registration forms to unregistered individuals within their jurisdictions.

Paxton criticized the lack of verification in this process, expressing concerns that the forms could reach ineligible voters such as felons and undocumented immigrants, potentially leading them to commit voter fraud by registering to vote illegally.

The Attorney General threatened legal action against the counties if they proceed with their plans, emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of voter rolls and ensuring that only eligible individuals participate in elections.

In a statement, Paxton warned, “It is more important than ever that we maintain the integrity of our voter rolls and ensure only eligible voters decide our elections. Your proposal does the opposite by indiscriminately inviting county residents to register to vote regardless of their eligibility. I urge you to abandon this proposal. If you do not, I will see you in court.”
