SAN ANTONIO – Get ready for an action-packed weekend in San Antonio as a three-day, round-robin pickleball tournament kicks off, expected to draw in hundreds of competitors.
The third annual CommuniCare Classic, hosted by the Valero Alamo Bowl and the San Antonio Pickleball Association, has officially started on Friday and will continue through Sunday at Fairchild Park.
Last year’s tournament saw 320 pickleball players, and this year is expected to feature 400 players participating in both the three-day tournament and a separate PartyPICKLE round-robin style tournament.
The competition kicks off at 8 a.m. each day, with men’s and women’s singles matches happening on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The PartyPICKLE’s round-robin and co-ed format will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.
Saturday will showcase men’s and women’s doubles teams from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., while mixed doubles teams will take the stage starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
The San Antonio Parks & Recreation facility at Fairchild Park has expanded from eight temporary, part-time courts to 18 courts, all open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
All proceeds from the CommuniCare Classic will go towards supporting San Antonio students through the Valero Alamo Bowl and San Antonio Pickleball Association scholarship programs.
