Nevada high court orders dismissal of Chasing Horse sex abuse case, charges can be refiled.

LAS VEGAS – The Nevada Supreme Court has made a landmark decision to dismiss a sex abuse indictment against Nathan Chasing Horse. This ruling has significant implications for a case that captured attention across Indian Country and led to additional criminal charges in the U.S. and Canada.

This decision comes after more than a year of legal challenges from the former “Dances with Wolves” actor who was facing an 18-count criminal case. The court’s ruling has overturned previous decisions that upheld the charges, citing errors in the grand jury proceedings and lack of substantial evidence presented by prosecutors.

Despite the dismissal, the door remains open for charges to be refiled in this case. This development underscores the complexity and gravity of the allegations against Chasing Horse.

Chasing Horse’s defense attorney, Kristy Holston, argued that critical errors in the grand jury process had tainted the state’s case. The court agreed, emphasizing the need for fair and unbiased legal proceedings.

The ruling directs the dismissal of the indictment without prejudice, offering prosecutors the option to refile charges if deemed necessary. Chasing Horse, who has pleaded not guilty, continues to face serious accusations of sexual assault, kidnapping, and child abuse.

Chasing Horse, known for his role in “Dances with Wolves,” has been in custody since his arrest last January. Despite the recent court decision, he remains incarcerated due to pending charges in multiple jurisdictions.

The saga of Nathan Chasing Horse serves as a cautionary tale, highlighting the complexities of celebrity, legal proceedings, and the pursuit of justice in cases of alleged abuse.
