Man gets 12-year sentence for deadly wrong-way crash

Driver Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison for Fatal Drunk Driving Crash

San Antonio – A tragic incident on May 29, 2023, left one person dead and two children injured when a driver under the influence crashed into another car. Now, Christopher James Davila, 39, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in the fatal crash.

According to a plea deal on Monday, Davila was convicted of intoxication manslaughter. In addition, he received a 10-year prison sentence for evading arrest in a separate incident from 2022. The sentences will run concurrently, as confirmed by the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

The fatal crash occurred around 1 a.m. along the eastbound lanes of Highway 90 West near State Highway 211, outside Loop 1604. Davila, driving a pickup truck with two children inside, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when his truck collided head-on with a sedan.

The driver of the sedan, Darion Jude Hendrick-Escobedo, 22, tragically lost his life in the crash. Hendrick-Escobedo was on his way home from fishing when the collision occurred just minutes away from his residence.

Davila and the two young passengers in his truck were also hospitalized following the crash. Davila suffered multiple serious injuries, while the children incurred only minor injuries and were eventually released.

This devastating incident serves as a solemn reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the devastating consequences that can result. Our thoughts go out to the families affected by this tragedy.
