FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – The drama continues for the New York Jets as they wait for Haason Reddick to make his appearance. General manager Joe Douglas is clear that negotiations for a new deal won’t commence until Reddick is back in action.
“It’s been clear and direct from the beginning,” Douglas stated on Thursday. “The ball’s in their court and whenever he’s ready to come here, we can’t wait to have him.”
Reddick, who recently requested a trade, has been a no-show, prompting Douglas to hold off on any contract talks. The standoff has now reached its 38th day, with fines accumulating for Reddick. Despite this, Douglas remains hopeful for a resolution.
Throughout the offseason, Reddick’s absence has been notable, with the star edge rusher missing out on team activities and training camp. The Jets are anticipating his return as they gear up for an exciting season ahead.
Having joined the team in March, Reddick was expected to be a valuable asset on the Jets’ defense. Talks of a contract extension were on the table previously, but without an agreement, the focus now lies on getting Reddick back on the field.
Reddick, a proven performer with multiple Pro Bowl selections, has been a standout player in the NFL with an impressive sack record. However, his prolonged absence has raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming season.
As the Jets prepare to face the 49ers in their season opener, the uncertainty surrounding Reddick’s status looms large. Nonetheless, the team remains optimistic about their prospects and is eager to end their playoff drought.
Despite the ongoing saga with Reddick, Douglas emphasized the positive atmosphere within the team, highlighting their unity and dedication. While the situation with Reddick continues to unfold, the Jets are focused on the task at hand – securing victory on the field.
