Chiefs WR Rashee Rice may miss season with knee injury from Mahomes collision

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Kansas City’s Rashee Rice might be out for the rest of the season after a knee injury in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

Rice sustained the injury during a bizarre play in the Chiefs’ tense 17-10 victory. He was carted off to the team bus with his right knee in a brace equipped with a dial for range-of-motion control. The wide receiver collided with his own quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, while chasing Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton during an interception return.

Coach Andy Reid expressed concern over Rice’s injury and mentioned that an MRI will be conducted the following day. The outlook is grim, and Reid stated, “I’m sure it’s not as good of news as we want.”

Mahomes’ overthrow led to Fulton’s interception, and as Rice attempted to strip the ball free from Fulton, Mahomes accidentally hit Rice’s legs. Both of Rice’s knees sustained impacts, and his right knee appeared to hyperextend.

Rice, the top receiver for the defending Super Bowl champions, has played a significant role this season with 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns. With Rice sidelined, the spotlight shifted to Travis Kelce, who stepped up with an impressive performance in the game.

As the Chiefs adapt to Rice’s absence, rookie Xavier Worthy emerges as a potential star. Worthy, the 28th overall draft pick, made his mark with an exceptional performance, including a 54-yard touchdown reception.

Rice is currently facing trial for his involvement in a high-speed crash in Texas last March.
