SAN ANTONIO – A 12-year-old boy recently faced District Court 436 Judge William Shaw for his first court hearing following his arrest over the weekend.

Due to his age, his identity remains protected.

The boy was taken into custody on Sunday on charges of making threats against seven schools online.

The post in question, which circulated widely online, featured a picture of a high-caliber firearm and listed the names of seven schools in the San Antonio area, along with future dates in September.

Law enforcement officials, including San Antonio police and Texas Rangers, located and arrested the 12-year-old.

During the hearing, a decision was reached regarding whether the boy would be released on probation until his next court appearance.

The boy’s mother defended him, stating, “I feel he’s not a danger to myself or anyone. The first altercation was a joking matter with another student. I sternly addressed it and instructed him not to engage in such behavior. There have been no other issues since.”

The defense attorney provided context behind the messages and elaborated on the origin of the gun images.

Despite the explanations, the state and probation department argued that detention was necessary due to the child’s past actions.

The boy’s mother emphasized that her son has no access to firearms and is passionate about the military, expressing a desire to enlist.

Judge Shaw underscored the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing the need for appropriate avenues to address issues like bullying.

Ultimately, Shaw ordered the boy to remain in detention pending a hearing scheduled for September 25 at 9:30 a.m.
