Madonna Funds Artistic Project for Youths in Pompeii
ROME – Madonna recently celebrated her 66th birthday in Pompeii and announced her plans to fund an artistic project involving youths in the area.
During a tour of the Pompeii archeological park with director Gabriel Zuchtriegel, Madonna met a group of teenagers participating in the “Sogno di Volare,” or “Dream of Flying,” project.
For the past four years, young artists have been re-adapting comedies by Aristophanes, starting from Pompeii’s amphitheater, Teatro Grande, and then traveling to other Italian theaters. Madonna’s generous donation of about 250,000 euros ($275,000) will fund “Dream of Flying” for one year.
Zuchtriegel expressed gratitude for Madonna’s support, noting the significance of the project for the youths in the region, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds with higher rates of school dropout and unemployment.
The show financed by Madonna’s foundation will be showcased at Pompeii’s Teatro Grande in May 2025, bringing artistic expression and opportunity to the local community.
