X suspends Brazil operations, citing ‘censorship orders’ from Supreme Court justice.

MEXICO CITY – The popular social media platform X has shaken up the tech world by announcing the closure of its operations in Brazil. The company cited threats from Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes as the reason behind their decision.

X revealed that Justice Moraes had threatened to arrest its legal representative in Brazil if they did not comply with certain orders. As a result, X is pulling out all remaining staff from the country with immediate effect. However, the service will still be available to Brazilians, raising questions about how the company plans to suspend operations while maintaining services.

Earlier this year, X clashed with Justice Moraes on issues related to free speech, far-right accounts, and misinformation. The company viewed his recent orders as censorship and shared the document on the platform to raise awareness.

The move highlights the ongoing debate around free speech and government regulation, especially in countries like Brazil. Justice Moraes has been at the center of controversy for his approach, which some critics view as an attempt to stifle dissent and infringe on democratic norms.
