Mexico City’s Hera HSBC Music Festival Showcases All-Female Lineup
Mexico City’s Hera HSBC music festival on Saturday brought together an all-female lineup of both Latina and international talent, including Kesha, Demi Lovato, and Camila Cabello. Named after the Greek goddess of women, family, and the sky and stars, the festival came at a historic moment in the country as Mexico prepares to inaugurate its first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum.
Fronted and organized by women, the festival drew more than 48,000 people to the capital’s race track, home to other music festivals like Corona Capital and EDC Mexico. Women were not only performing on stage but also working behind the scenes as producers, engineers, and more. Itzel González, festival promoter, and Ximena Sariñana, Mexican singer-songwriter, co-creator, and director of the Hera committee, aimed to highlight the role of women in the music industry with this event.
The festival had a diverse lineup of performances, including Puerto Rican and trans rapper Villano Antillano, who delivered an electrifying set to the crowd’s delight. Her powerful lyrics and energetic stage presence resonated with fans, making her performance a highlight of the event.
Despite gender inequality persisting in the music industry, events like the Hera HSBC music festival serve as a platform to showcase the talent and contributions of female artists. With only a quarter of musicians on major U.S. music festivals being women, initiatives like this festival are crucial in promoting gender diversity and representation in the music world.
The festival also featured performances by Mexican singer Danna Paola and Colombian group Bomba Estéreo, adding to the cultural richness and diversity of the event. Fans braved the rain in the late afternoon to witness the highly anticipated performance by pop star Kesha, who expressed her gratitude to the audience for their support during her challenging years in the music industry.
As music continues to evolve and embrace diversity, events like the Hera HSBC music festival play a vital role in highlighting and uplifting female voices in the industry. By showcasing an all-female lineup of talented artists, the festival sends a powerful message of empowerment and inclusivity to music lovers around the world.
Don’t miss out on the next Hera HSBC music festival and join us in celebrating the incredible talents of female artists from diverse backgrounds!
