BALTIMORE – Wins have been hard to come by for the Chicago White Sox this season, but they finally secured one worth celebrating.
Jonathan Cannon’s solid pitching performance, combined with home runs from Nicky Lopez, Andrew Vaughn, and Dominic Fletcher, led the White Sox to an 8-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, breaking a 12-game losing streak.
The win not only gave the team a much-needed boost but also granted them a well-deserved day off on Thursday.
Interim manager Grady Sizemore expressed relief, stating, “It’s been hard to come by, so we’ll enjoy it and be ready for Friday.”
Despite accumulating 109 losses this season, the White Sox managed to avoid spiraling towards the modern big league record of 120 losses in a single season.
The victory came after a challenging series where the team lost the first two games by a large margin. However, Wednesday’s game showcased a completely transformed White Sox team on the field.
The night saw impressive performances from Lopez, Vaughn, and Fletcher, who each contributed home runs to secure the win, ending a long drought for the team.
Reflecting on the game, Lopez expressed his surprise and joy at hitting his first homer of the season, emphasizing the team’s unity and support for one another throughout the tough season.
The victory was a much-needed morale boost for the White Sox, who had not won a game for nearly a month, showcasing their resilience and determination to overcome adversity.
As the team savors this hard-earned win, they look ahead to future games with renewed confidence and spirit.
