Water buffalo captured days after escaping in Iowa suburb, killed by police

Welcome to the wild tale of the escaped water buffalo in Des Moines, Iowa!

Have you ever heard of a water buffalo causing chaos in a suburban neighborhood? Well, that’s exactly what happened in Pleasant Hill when an adventurous water buffalo made a run for it and ended up in a wooded area in Des Moines.

The escapade began when the animal wandered away from its pen and started causing trouble in the neighborhood. Police were called to the scene, along with animal rescue and control groups, to try and contain the water buffalo and return it to its owner’s property. However, things took a turn for the worse when the animal became aggressive, leading to it being shot and wounded.

But fear not, the story has a happy ending! The Iowa Farm Sanctuary stepped in to rescue the injured water buffalo, who was later surrendered by its owner. The animal is now on its way to the Iowa State Large Animal Hospital for treatment and will eventually find a new home at the sanctuary.

It’s important to note that water buffaloes can weigh up to a whopping 2,650 pounds, making them one of the largest members of the Bovini tribe. Despite their size, these gentle giants are often domesticated and play a crucial role in agriculture around the world.

So, next time you come across a water buffalo on the loose, just remember that sometimes, even the biggest animals need a helping hand to find their way back home.
