VMAs rescheduled to Sept. 11 for US presidential debate

The highly anticipated 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) have been rescheduled due to a conflicting U.S. presidential debate. The event will now take place on September 11 at 8 p.m. Eastern from the UBS Arena on New York’s Long Island, one day later than originally planned.

Last week, it was confirmed that both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump had agreed to participate in a debate on September 10, the previous date of the VMAs. This rescheduling prompted MTV to announce the 2024 nominees on Tuesday.

Leading the nominations once again is the talented Taylor Swift, with an impressive 10 nominations. She received eight nods for her “Fortnight” music video, as well as nominations in the artist of the year and best pop categories. Post Malone follows closely behind with eight nominations, including his ninth for his hit “I Had Some Help” featuring Morgan Wallen.

Other notable nominees in the artist of the year category include Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, and SZA. Swift, who took home nine VMAs last year, is inching closer to Beyoncé’s record of 28 awards.

Fan voting across various categories is currently underway online and will conclude on August 30. The best new artist category voting will remain open during the show.

Excitement is building for the star-studded lineup of performers at the 2024 VMAs, including Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro, and Camila Cabello.
