The Uvalde Police Department recently revealed that they failed to release certain officer body camera and cruiser dashboard footage from the 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting as part of a settlement agreement with news organizations.
Police Chief Homer Delgado shared that after releasing files to news organizations, it was discovered that some footage was missing. An investigation was ordered, revealing additional videos that should have been included.
The department has handed over the footage for review and initiated an internal affairs investigation. Delgado emphasized a commitment to upholding high standards and ensuring transparency for the Uvalde community.
This incident raises concerns about the department’s efforts to rebuild trust with city residents following the tragic shooting. The involvement of the district attorney’s office in accessing the footage for evaluating officers’ conduct remains unclear.
Despite indictments in the case, no Uvalde Police Department officers have been charged. The missing footage’s connection to specific officers remains undisclosed.
