Uvalde City’s Response to DOJ Review of Robb Elementary Shooting

UVALDE, Texas – The Department of Justice recently released a comprehensive report highlighting the failures in law enforcement’s response to the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde. This incident resulted in the loss of 19 students and two teachers on May 24, 2022.

The extensive report, spanning over 500 pages, sheds light on critical breakdowns that occurred before, during, and after the shooting. It underscores how these failures, by both police and leadership, contributed to the devastating number of casualties.

The City of Uvalde issued a statement in response to the findings, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing law enforcement’s preparedness for future active shooter events.

“The City has already taken significant steps, including changes in leadership, new training, and upgraded equipment, to bolster law enforcement’s capabilities in safeguarding our community. Additionally, an independent investigator has been tasked with evaluating the city’s law enforcement response, with results expected soon,” the statement read.

“Throughout the review process, the City of Uvalde fully cooperated with the Justice Department, offering comprehensive information to ensure a thorough account of law enforcement’s actions. We are currently reviewing the report and will provide further comments once our assessment is complete.”
