SAN ANTONIO – Exciting news for the University of Texas at San Antonio as the UT System Board of Regents has given the green light to their plans to acquire the One Riverwalk Place building in downtown San Antonio.

UTSA’s intention to purchase this 18-story office building was formalized with a letter of intent signed in early August, marking a significant step in expanding the university’s downtown presence.

The Board of Regents made the decision during a recent meeting, signaling a new chapter for UTSA’s growth.

While the exact purchase amount has not been disclosed, the assessed value of the property stands at $22.25 million according to the Bexar Appraisal District. The deal includes a 550-space parking garage.

Planning is set to begin for the move into the building in the summer of 2025 after the 2024-2025 academic year, with academic departments, support services, and potential retail spaces on the ground floor.

This strategic acquisition aligns with UTSA’s vision for campus growth and further development in downtown San Antonio, as detailed in updates provided to faculty and staff by university leadership.

Shaping a Vibrant Campus Landscape

UTSA’s downtown footprint continues to expand with recent acquisitions, ongoing construction projects, and future plans that promise a dynamic educational environment at the heart of the city.

The university’s commitment to innovation and growth is exemplified through projects like the San Pedro facilities, Blanco Hall, and now, the significant addition of One Riverwalk Place.

With a clear focus on enhancing the student experience and academic offerings, UTSA’s strategic vision for campus development in San Antonio is shaping a vibrant future for both the university and the community it serves.

Stay tuned for more updates on UTSA’s exciting progress and transformation in downtown San Antonio.
