UTSA, Texas State to face off in I-35 rivalry kickoff

SAN ANTONIO – The clash of two Texas football titans is almost here as the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) prepares to face off against Texas State University in the highly-anticipated I-35 Rivalry this Saturday.

Despite being just 53 miles apart, the rivalry between UTSA and Texas State runs deep, with alumni from both schools scattered throughout San Antonio and San Marcos, creating a spirited atmosphere that extends beyond the football field and onto social media.

As tensions rise and excitement builds, UTSA tight end Oscar Cardenas is focused on the upcoming game, acknowledging the challenge posed by Texas State’s defense, which secured seven sacks in their recent victory against Lamar, while UTSA is still addressing issues in protecting their quarterback.

UTSA currently leads the series 5-0, but Texas State is determined to secure their first win in the I-35 Rivalry, with head coach Jeff Traylor expressing his team’s readiness to face their rivals on home turf.

The Bobcats, under the leadership of head coach GJ Kinne, are seen as the favorites to win on Saturday, despite their underdog status, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown at UFCU Stadium in San Marcos.

Don’t miss the action as UTSA takes on Texas State in the I-35 Rivalry this Saturday, September 7th. Kickoff is at 3 p.m., promising an exciting game between these two powerhouse programs.
