The University of Texas System Board of Regents just unveiled plans for a historic merger that will see the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) and UT Health Science Center combine forces to create a unified institution by 2025. According to UT Systems Board of Regents Chairman Kevin P. Eltife, this merger will enhance the strengths of both institutions, positioning them to lead globally in education, healthcare, and innovation. Leading this charge will be UTSA President Taylor Eighmy, who has been unanimously selected by the board of regents to spearhead the future university. With over 40,000 students, 15,900 staff members, 4,000 faculty, and 1,400 healthcare providers under his wing, Eighmy is tasked with steering this new entity towards success.
The new institution is projected to have a significant impact, with $467 million allocated for research, a combined budget of $2.2 billion, an endowment of $1.1 billion, and over $6 billion in direct economic output.
