United States, Egypt, and Qatar Push for Restart of Gaza Talks
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, leaders from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar called for Israel and Hamas to return to negotiations regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza. They emphasized the urgency of resuming talks, stating that only the final details of implementing a ceasefire and hostage release need to be ironed out.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office confirmed that Israel will send a negotiation team on August 15 to finalize the framework agreement.
The mediation efforts by President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Qatari Emir Tamim al-Thani have set the stage for talks to take place on August 15 in either Doha or Cairo.
According to a senior U.S. official, there are only a few remaining areas of disagreement to be resolved between the conflicting parties, such as the timing of a detainee swap between Israel and Hamas.
The mediators have a proposal ready to address the outstanding issues and are hopeful for a breakthrough in the upcoming talks.
Critics of Netanyahu have accused him of delaying the peace talks, but there is optimism for progress as negotiations are set to resume next week.
Stay tuned for updates on the Gaza talks as world leaders work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
