Ukrainian troops seize bridges in Kursk, hinting at extended presence

Ukraine Destroys Key Bridges in Russia’s Kursk Region

KYIV – Ukraine has launched a bold cross-border incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, destroying a key bridge near Glushkovo and targeting a second bridge in the area. This strategic move has disrupted Russian supply routes and could indicate Ukraine’s intention to establish a foothold in the region.

The destruction of the first bridge over the Seim River near Glushkovo has been confirmed by Russia’s military bloggers, who acknowledged that it will impact the delivery of supplies to Russian forces. Ukrainian airstrikes split the bridge in two, hindering Moscow’s ability to reinforce its troops in Kursk.

Following the attack on the first bridge, Ukrainian forces struck a second bridge in the region, further complicating Russian efforts to resupply their troops. While details of the second attack are still emerging, reports suggest that another bridge over the Seim in Zvannoe village was hit.

The strikes have left the area with only one intact bridge, potentially hampering Russian operations and civilian evacuations. Ukraine’s incursion into Kursk has taken Moscow by surprise, with Ukrainian forces advancing rapidly across the region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for allies to lift restrictions on using Western weapons to strike deeper into Russia. This escalation comes amid heightened tensions and increased military activity, including attacks on Kyiv using ballistic and cruise missiles.

Meanwhile, concerns are mounting over the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, with reports of a drone strike nearby. The International Atomic Energy Agency has urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation near the plant.
