WASHINGTON – Donald Trump stumbled over the name of Charlottesville, Virginia, during a speech focused on economic policy, where he called out Vice President Kamala Harris for allegedly lying about “Charlottestown.”
The former president was discussing imposing tariffs and strategies to boost U.S. manufacturing in Savannah, Georgia, when he went off script. He claimed to have won a recent debate with Harris, despite accusations from the GOP that the debate moderators were biased against him.
“She didn’t say anything except lies, like bloodbath, like Charlottestown,” Trump stated.
Although he did not acknowledge the error, Trump quickly moved on, emphasizing that he was finishing the topic to avoid falling into a potential trap.
Trump intended to reference the tragic 2017 violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, between white supremacists and anti-racist protesters. He has been heavily criticized by Harris and other Democrats for blaming “both sides” for the incident.
