Triston Casas Makes History with Three Home Runs in One Game
BOSTON – Triston Casas of the Boston Red Sox made headlines on Sunday by hitting three home runs in the first three at-bats of a game against the Minnesota Twins.
The 24-year-old Casas drove in seven runs, leading the Red Sox to an 8-1 lead against the Twins in the seventh inning.
While the record for most home runs in a game is four, achieved 18 times in MLB history, the feat of hitting three consecutive home runs is still remarkable.
The last player to hit four home runs in a game was J.D. Martinez in 2017, and no AL player has done it since Josh Hamilton in 2012.
With the crowd cheering, Casas unfortunately bounced out in his fourth at-bat, ending the sixth inning.
Casas’ first home run came in the opening inning with two runners on base, launching a 400-foot shot into the seats behind Boston’s bullpen off a first-pitch fastball from Pablo López.
His second home run, also off López, was an opposite field drive into the Green Monster seats in the third inning with two runners on, extending the Red Sox lead to 6-0.
The third home run came in the fifth inning on the first pitch from reliever Brent Headrick, further solidifying the Red Sox lead at 8-1.
