SAN ANTONIO – As colleges and universities gear up for another semester, back-to-school season is in full swing for college students in our area. Trinity University welcomed 658 first-year students on campus as they moved into their dorms on Friday morning, with the assistance of more than 300 volunteers.
Dean of Admissions at Trinity University, Justin Doty, described the scene, saying, “When you roll up, your car is basically swarmed by Team Trinity. Your luggage, everything, is unloaded in probably 30 seconds or less. So it’s quite a sight to behold.”
Doty also highlighted that this year’s first-year class is the most competitive yet, with an acceptance rate of 26%. The diverse group of 658 students represents 35 states and 22 countries, each with a wide range of majors and interests.
Addison Doss and Arthur Oracscalarga, both first-year students at Trinity, expressed their excitement on their first day. Doss shared, “It is so incredibly exciting. I feel like I’ve been ready for college since the second grade. I just needed to go through a little school to get there.” Oracscalarga added, “The music is blasting in the background. People are smiling. People are having fun, even if they’re doing something that is considered not fun, I guess. But I think it’s fun. I’m having a lot of fun!”
With a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere on campus, Trinity University is all set to kick off the new semester on Monday, Aug. 26th, with all 658 freshmen and the rest of the student body.
