LOS ANGELES – The music industry is no stranger to controversies and legal battles, and the latest one involves Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, The-Dream. His legal team is currently fighting to dismiss a lawsuit filed against him by singer Chanaaz Mangroe, accusing him of sexual assault and abuse.
The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, is renowned for his work on chart-topping hits like Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It),” Justin Bieber’s “Baby,” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” Despite his success, he vehemently denies all allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse leveled against him in the lawsuit filed earlier this year.
In response to the lawsuit, Gesteelde-Diamant’s legal team filed a motion seeking its dismissal, claiming that the accusations are false and defamatory. They argue that the lawsuit is an attempt to tarnish the reputation of a highly respected Black musician in the industry for financial gain.
Mangroe, who performed under the stage name Channii Monroe, alleged in the lawsuit that Gesteelde-Diamant subjected her to an abusive and manipulative relationship after she moved to the U.S. in pursuit of a singing career.
The legal battle doesn’t end there. Gesteelde-Diamant’s lawyers are also challenging the validity of the rape claim and seeking to have it dismissed on technical grounds.
The case is likely to be a protracted legal battle, with both sides digging in. It remains to be seen how this high-profile lawsuit will unfold in the coming days.
