SAN ANTONIO – The Broadway corridor is set to undergo a transformation with the development plans unveiled by the group behind Terry Black’s BBQ.
The vacant lot at 2100 Broadway will soon be home to a new restaurant, hotel, spa, and underground parking structure as part of the project that has received approval from the city of San Antonio after various reviews. The final designs are set to go before the Historic and Design Review Commission next month for the green light.
The project faced its latest hurdle with a zoning change allowing for the hotel development that was successfully passed by City Council. Some concerns were raised about potential air quality issues due to the smoke from the barbecue restaurant. However, assurances were given that the necessary infrastructure would be in place to address any such issues.
District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez has voiced support for the development, highlighting the group’s commitment to ensuring minimal impact on the surrounding neighborhood.
While the hotel designs are yet to be revealed, the recent zoning change permits a structure taller than 35 feet, with earlier plans indicating a three-story hotel.
The Terry Black’s BBQ family acquired the land in 2021, with Austin-based Chioco Design LLC serving as the architect for the project.
HDRC is scheduled to review the case on Sept. 4, with a construction timeline yet to be announced.
