LOS ANGELES – The recent tragic death of former “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor has shaken the entertainment industry. Two 18-year-old men, Robert Barceleau and Sergio Estrada, have been charged with his murder in Los Angeles County Superior Court. District Attorney George Gascón expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the talented young actor, stating that Wactor had so much more to offer the world.
The suspects, along with two co-defendants, were arrested and set to be arraigned on Monday afternoon. There is uncertainty about whether they have retained legal representation at this time. The county public defender’s office has not yet provided any comments on the case.
Wactor’s tragic demise occurred when he caught three thieves attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his car on May 25. The incident took place outside a rooftop bar where he had just finished work. Without any provocation, one of the thieves shot and killed the 37-year-old actor. Barceleau and Estrada are facing additional charges of grand theft and attempted robbery.
Barceleau’s charges carry special circumstances, including murder during an attempted robbery and the personal use of a firearm, potentially resulting in a life sentence without parole. Estrada faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. Leonel Gutierrez, another suspect present during the incident, has been charged with grand theft and attempted robbery. Frank Olano, the fourth individual, has been charged as an accessory after the fact.
Wactor’s untimely death has spurred a movement known as “Justice for Johnny,” which advocates for a more aggressive approach to solving the case. Family and friends of the actor organized rallies to demand swifter action and stricter prosecution.
Law enforcement and public officials have assured the public of their dedicated efforts in solving the case. LAPD Interim Chief Dominic Choi emphasized the extensive and thorough nature of the investigation, describing it as a “relentless pursuit” in a challenging case. Mayor Karen Bass echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to enhance public safety.
Barceleau is currently held without bail, while Estrada’s bail is set at just over $1 million.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community unity and the pursuit of justice for victims of crime. The memory of Johnny Wactor will undoubtedly live on as his loved ones and supporters seek closure and accountability in his case.
