BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Bexar County sheriff’s deputies have made a breakthrough in a March 2024 homicide case by arresting a suspect.
Jonathan Arriola, a 20-year-old, has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that took place at an illegal gathering in Southwest Bexar County.
Sheriff Javier Salazar revealed Arriola’s arrest during a news conference, stating that the suspect faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. However, Salazar hinted at the possibility of additional charges being filed against the suspect.
The incident unfolded when sheriff’s deputies received a shooting call around 4 a.m. on March 9 at the 8200 block of Old Pearsall Road.
According to Salazar, Arriola, who was reportedly under the influence at the time, was involved in a confrontation at the party and was ejected from the premises.
Before leaving the scene in a vehicle with four companions, Arriola allegedly fired multiple random shots at the party venue using a pistol.
Authorities discovered that Arriola’s weapon was equipped with a switch that could convert it from semi-automatic to automatic fire.
Upon arrival, deputies found two victims – a 21-year-old woman, identified as Desirae Rivera, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 29-year-old man who sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Rivera died due to a gunshot wound to the head.
Arriola, who was working in construction at the SpaceX site in Brownsville, was apprehended by law enforcement on Thursday.
The investigation is ongoing, with the sheriff’s office not ruling out the involvement of other suspects in the case.
