GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas – Shock and disbelief spread through the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD community as news broke of a substitute teacher being arrested and charged with two counts of injury to a child.
Yorlin Hernandez, 42, was taken into custody by Cibolo police without incident on Friday afternoon, as confirmed by a letter obtained by KSAT. He was later booked into the Guadalupe County Jail.
The SCUCISD district made it clear in the letter that Hernandez will not be returning to the district in any capacity in the future.
Addressing the “Eagle Families,” the district emphasized its commitment to the safety and well-being of its students, particularly at Barbara C. Jordan Intermediate School where Eagles soar as the mascot.
Hernandez was employed as a substitute teacher by ESS, a third-party education staffing company responsible for the hiring, training, and placement of substitute teachers, aides, and clerical positions within the district.
Despite attempts to reach out to SCUCISD and Cibolo police for further details, no responses have been received as of yet.
