SAN ANTONIO – The Spurs Youth Basketball League, previously known as the Spurs Drug-Free League, is commemorating 35 years of providing opportunities for thousands of young players in Texas.

Former SYBL players turned youth coaches emphasize the valuable life lessons that basketball can impart on children both on and off the court.

Rios’s daughter, Tiffany, who transitioned to dance after playing in the SYBL, credits the league for instilling discipline and determination in her that she now applies to her passion for dance.

Spurs Sports and Entertainment CEO RC Buford highlights how the love for basketball can ignite at a young age and praises the league for providing a safe environment for children to grow and express themselves through the sport over the past 35 years.

Yolanda Rodgers, SYBL coach and Director of Community Sports, fondly recalls a moment with Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich signing her shirt, showcasing the connections and mentorship opportunities that the league offers.

Rodgers further emphasizes the importance of teamwork, communication, and leadership skills learned through sports like basketball, aligning with the core values instilled by the Spurs organization.
