Welcome to Behind the Kitchen Door
San Antonio – Dead roaches, rodent poop, and small flies around a dishwashing station are some of the violations that health inspectors found at three San Antonio restaurants that could make you sick.
“Behind the Kitchen Door” is a series where we investigate health inspections of local restaurants.
Genghis Grill
Inspectors found 10 items that were out of compliance at the Genghis Grill on 1903 N FM 1604 East in a July 2024 inspection.
Among the issues inspectors found was warm food on the buffet line, raw shrimp stored over ready-to-eat food, small flies around dishwashing stations, and an expired food permit.
Paulina’s Mexican Restaurant
Rodent poop was found in a dry storage area at Paulina’s Mexican Restaurant at 1438 W Hutchins Place. The inspector also noted issues with the temperature of barbacoa, picadillo, beans, and guisada.
Raw beef and chicken were stored together, and an employee was seen making breakfast tacos with bare hands.
Home Plate Bar & Grill
The sports bar on 2533 Bandera received a strike during its June 2024 inspection. Issues included a dead roach behind the bar, raw chicken stored uncovered in a fridge, and a Fireball party bucket used to store jalapeños.
