Breaking News: X Platform Updates AI Chatbot Following Election Misinformation Concerns
The popular social media platform X has recently made changes to its AI chatbot, Grok, after receiving warnings from five secretaries of state about the spread of election misinformation.
Top election officials from Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Washington penned a letter to Elon Musk, expressing concerns about false information being produced by the chatbot regarding state ballot deadlines following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
The secretaries of state recommended that users seeking election-related information be directed to CanIVote.org, a trusted voting information website managed by the National Association of Secretaries of State.
To address the issue, the chatbot now prompts users to visit Vote.gov for accurate and up-to-date information about the 2024 U.S. Elections before responding to election-related queries.
Referring to both websites, the secretaries of state emphasized the importance of providing users with reliable information from trusted sources during this critical election year.
The article also highlights concerns about Grok’s ability to generate misleading AI images related to elections, raising questions about the platform’s role in combatting misinformation.
