Second arms depot ablaze in NW Russia after Ukrainian drone hit

KYIV – A dramatic blaze ripped through a Russian arms depot deep within the country, leading to explosions and the shutdown of a major highway. This incident came shortly after Ukraine unleashed over 100 drones at Russia and occupied Crimea, as reported by Russian news outlets and the Defense Ministry.

The depot that caught fire seemed to be in close proximity to another depot that was targeted by Ukrainian drones earlier, causing a massive fire and injuring 13 individuals.

Russian authorities swiftly closed a 100-kilometer stretch of highway and evacuated passengers from a nearby rail station following the explosions. Reports on local Telegram channels indicated that a missile depot near the town of Toropets, in Russia’s Tver region, was hit by the attack.

Unverified images circulating on Telegram depicted a massive ball of flame rising into the night sky, coupled with smoke trails from detonations.

In a separate incident, an ammunition depot and missile arsenal in southwestern Russia also caught fire in the Krasnodar region, prompting evacuations due to continuous blasts. Videos on social media captured bright orange clouds emanating from the scene and loud detonations echoing in the background.

Russia’s Defense Ministry declared that its forces had shot down 101 Ukrainian drones over Russian territory and occupied Crimea. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties in either region.
