British Cycling Star Sarah Storey Wins 19th Paralympic Gold in Paris
Sarah Storey, the British cycling sensation, added another feather to her hat by winning her 19th gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris. The 46-year-old triumphed in the women’s C4-5 road race, finishing just ahead of French teenager Heidi Gaugain in a thrilling sprint to the finish line.
Completing the 71-kilometer course in the Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois in 1 hour, 54 minutes, 24 seconds, Storey described the race as intense and highlighted Gaugain’s attack late in the race as a pivotal moment. Speaking of her victory, Storey said, “I’m just delighted that my wheel was in front at the finish.”
Storey had already clinched the C5 individual time trial gold earlier in the week. She has a remarkable track record in the Paralympic Games, having won gold in multiple events across various editions, including Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, London, and Beijing.
China Sets World Record in Universal Relay
In other Paralympic news, the China team set a world record in the 4×100-meter universal relay in para athletics, clocking 45.09 seconds in the heats. This mixed-gender and mixed-disability race features teams comprising athletes with different disabilities, showcasing inclusivity and diversity in sports.
China’s relay team, comprised of Zhou Guohua, Wang Hao, Wen Xiaoyan, and Hu Yang, will compete in the final against the United States, Britain, and Japan. The event promises to be a thrilling display of athleticism and teamwork on the grand stage of the Paralympic Games.
