SAN ANTONIO POLICE IDENTIFY OFFICERS AND SUSPECT INVOLVED IN FATAL SHOOTING

The San Antonio Police Department has released new information regarding a fatal shooting that occurred over the weekend. The incident, which took place in the 700 block of Broadway Street near Brooklyn Avenue, involved three officers and a suspect.

The suspect has been identified as Joseph Garcia, 22, who was wanted on three felony warrants, including possessing a firearm, continuous violence against the family, and aggravated promotion of prostitution.

Chief William McManus stated that SAPD’s ROPE Unit and Crisis Response Team detectives had been tracking Garcia since Friday. The officers located Garcia in a parking lot and attempted to apprehend him, but he resisted and made threats of violence.

As the situation escalated, Garcia reached for a backpack inside the vehicle, prompting the officers to open fire. Tragically, Garcia was killed in the shooting, while another 22-year-old man in the backseat of the vehicle was critically injured.

The three officers involved in the incident, Christopher Potts, Joshua Nicholson, and Alex Solchenberger, have been placed on administrative duty. Nicholson and Solchenberger each have seven years of experience with SAPD, while Potts has 15 years.

Following the incident, SAPD’s Shooting Team and Internal Affairs Unit will conduct separate investigations and provide their findings to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office for an independent review.
