New Contract Agreement Reached Between City of San Antonio and Firefighters Union
SAN ANTONIO – After months of negotiations, the bargaining teams for the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association reached a new contract agreement just before midnight on Saturday.
The three-year contract, which was finalized after a 13-and-a-half-hour bargaining session, is still pending approval from both the union’s membership and the San Antonio City Council before it can be implemented.
The tentative deal includes annual pay raises of 7%, 8%, and 5%, totaling up to 21.3% with the compounding effect.
In addition to the pay raise, $2,400 worth of incentive pay that union members currently receive will be reclassified as part of their base pay, resulting in base salary increases of approximately 24.1% to 26.4%, depending on rank.
For example, the salary of the lowest-ranking firefighter would increase from $57,576 to $72,774 by the third year, while the most senior district chief’s salary would rise from $106,872 to $132,588.
