Welcome to San Antonio International Airport!
Welcome to the bustling San Antonio International Airport, where records are being broken and exciting expansions are on the horizon!
In July, the airport saw a record-breaking 1,032,610 passengers either flying in or out, marking the second time it has surpassed the 1 million passenger mark. This figure is a 3% increase from the previous record set in July 2023.
With the increasing number of passengers, the city’s aviation department is gearing up for an expansion project. Plans are underway to build a new parking garage that will increase the current capacity from about 500 spaces to close to 2,000. The new garage, known as the “Ground Transportation Center” (GTC), will not only provide additional parking but also streamline transportation services like hotel shuttles, taxis, and ride-shares.
Director of Airports Jesus Saenz Jr. emphasized the need for a larger GTC due to the high demand for parking, especially with travelers coming from afar and requiring long-term parking solutions. The airport is expecting an additional 8,000 planeloads of passengers in FY 2025 compared to FY 2023, highlighting the need for expanded facilities.
Originally estimated to cost between $62 million and $68.5 million, the new, larger GTC is now expected to come with a price tag of $125 million to accommodate the growing needs of the airport and its passengers.
Exciting times lie ahead for San Antonio International Airport as it continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of its diverse and expanding traveler base. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
