Welcome Back to School in San Antonio!More Back To School Coverage:

SAN ANTONIO – As the new school year begins, more school districts across the San Antonio area, including the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD), are preparing to welcome students back to the classroom.

This year, 371 students will be starting at Rogers Colleg Prep Middle School. Students can look forward to smaller classes, a newly renovated gym, a new library, and a renovated fine arts building, according to school officials.

SAISD is expecting a total of 54,000 students across its 88 schools this year. Students must be registered in advance, have their immunizations up to date, and undergo an athletic physical if they plan to participate in sports.

In preparation for extreme weather conditions, the district has implemented new operating procedures. Superintendent Jaime Aquino stated that custodians will now start checking classroom temperatures at 5 a.m. to ensure they fall within the specified range of 72 to 76 degrees, as per the Texas Administrative Code.

To address any temperature issues, the district has outlined immediate actions, including using portable air-conditioning units, relocating students to other areas of the campus if needed, and, as a last resort, moving students to another campus. Parents will be notified in such cases, with options for picking up their child or having them wait in a cooled bus with Wi-Fi until pickup. Regular bus routes and meal services will continue as normal.

In light of a rightsizing plan that led to the closure of several schools, the district will have a large number of students attending new schools within the district. The closed campuses will now serve as bus stops for students, including many pre-k students.
