Remains in Medina County from 44 years ago finally identified

HONDO, Texas – The mystery surrounding a man found on the side of a Medina County road almost half a century ago has been solved as the victim has finally been identified.

The victim has been confirmed as Gary Alan Robbins, aged 33, whose remains were discovered on Nov. 26, 1979, in some brush off what is now known as County Road 371 in Castroville.

Despite the initial challenges in identifying the body, recent breakthroughs and advancements in forensic technology have allowed law enforcement officials to close this long-standing case.

While the victim has been named, the investigation into Robbins’ death remains active and ongoing, with authorities seeking any additional information that may shed light on this decades-old case.

If you have any information related to this case, please reach out to Sergeant Investigator Alfonso R. Oranday at 830-741-6150 or via email at alfonso.oranday@medinatx.org.

Tips can also be submitted anonymously to the Medina County Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-FOR-CUFF (1-800-367-2833) or through the P3 Tips app available on the App Store or Google Play.
