Racer apologizes to victim’s family for fatal crash

SAN ANTONIO – A tragic racing incident in San Antonio has left a family grieving and a young man facing the consequences of his actions. Andrew Gomez, just 22 years old, was driving home from work when his life was cut short by a reckless act of racing.

Mohammed Hasan, engaged in a race with another vehicle on the road, caused a head-on collision with Gomez’s car, resulting in his untimely death. The impact of this incident cannot be understated, as Hasan’s actions have had far-reaching consequences.

Charged with serious felonies including racing on a highway resulting in death, intoxication manslaughter, and manslaughter, Hasan faced the weight of his actions in court. Ultimately, after a plea deal, Hasan was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the racing charge.

During the emotional court proceedings, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Gomez’s grieving mother, spoke directly to Hasan, expressing the deep pain of losing her son and the hope for Hasan to learn and grow from this experience.

Hasan, addressing Rodriguez with a heartfelt apology, acknowledged the enormity of his actions and expressed his commitment to self-improvement and growth. Rodriguez accepted his apology, emphasizing the importance of learning from mistakes and striving to make amends.

As Hasan begins his sentence, there is a glimmer of hope for redemption and transformation. With the possibility of parole after serving half of his term, Hasan has the opportunity to reflect on his choices and make positive changes for the future.
