Manhattan Prosecutors Respond to Trump’s Request to Delay Hush Money Case Verdict

NEW YORK – Manhattan prosecutors pushed back on Tuesday against Donald Trump’s attempt to delay post-trial decisions in his New York hush money criminal case. They suggested that while they could consider postponing the former president’s Sept. 18 sentencing, there was no need to delay other crucial rulings.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office disputed Trump’s request to have a federal court step in and potentially overturn his felony conviction, as he seeks to challenge the verdict and dismiss the case on the grounds of the U.S. Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling.

Prosecutors advised Judge Juan M. Merchan not to delay his decisions on Trump’s requests, emphasizing that a ruling on Trump’s motion to overturn the verdict is expected on Sept. 16. The sentencing decision is also imminent.

Trump was found guilty in May on multiple felony charges related to concealing hush money payment to Stormy Daniels. The sentencing could result in jail time, probation, or a fine for Trump.

Both Trump’s legal team and the prosecutors are awaiting the judge’s rulings, as they navigate through the complexities of the case and Trump’s appeals.

If the case is moved to federal court, Trump’s lawyers intend to challenge the verdict on immunity grounds and seek a dismissal. However, the federal court’s initial response raised technical issues that need to be addressed by Trump’s legal team.
