Stay Cool at Pedernales Falls State Park This Summer

If you’re planning a trip to Pedernales Falls State Park this summer, make sure you’re prepared for the heat!

Officials at the park have conducted over 23 heat-related rescues since the beginning of summer, with an additional nine rescues for overheated dogs. It’s crucial to take precautions to avoid heat-related issues.

A recent post on the park’s Facebook page showcased ground temperatures at various locations in the park, reaching up to 157.4 degrees in the sand!

  • Parking lot: 143.1 degrees

  • Main overlook (in the shade): 105 degrees

  • Riverbed: 109.8 degrees

  • Sand: 157.4 degrees

  • Rocks in sunlight: 140.1 degrees

  • River temp. at the shore: 93 degrees

Don’t let the heat ruin your outdoor adventure! Remember to hydrate, hike early in the day, and take breaks in shaded areas. Enjoy your visit to this beautiful park in Johnson City!
