PBS’ Judy Woodruff issues apology for Israel peace talks comment

Renowned PBS correspondent Judy Woodruff issued a heartfelt apology on Wednesday for comments she made on-air regarding former President Donald Trump and the delicate negotiations for a cease-fire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

Woodruff, known for her insightful reporting, came under fire during PBS’ coverage of the Democratic national convention for repeating unverified claims from Axios and Reuters. She had previously shared reports alleging that Trump urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to delay peace talks until after the U.S. election to potentially benefit Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

However, in a candid post on social media, Woodruff acknowledged missing subsequent denials of the story by both the Trump campaign and Israel. She clarified that her comments were not based on original reporting on her part.

“This was a mistake, and I apologize for it,” expressed Woodruff.

With a storied career in journalism that includes stints at CNN and NBC News, Woodruff was at the helm of PBS’ “NewsHour” from 2013 to 2022 before stepping down for a special reporting project.
