Patton Kizzire Ends Victory Drought with Procore Championship Win
After a long victory drought, Patton Kizzire emerged victorious in the Procore Championship, showcasing remarkable skills throughout the tournament at Silverado Country Club in NAPA, Calif. Kizzire closed with a 2-under 70, securing a tournament-record five-stroke victory in the FedEx Cup Fall opener.
Kizzire’s win came after going 176 events without a victory, making this triumph even sweeter for the 38-year-old former Auburn player. “I’m going to enjoy this win,” Kizzire said. “It’s just so sweet to get through the ups and downs. That’s life. You just got to stay positive. That’s what led me to here, to right now.”
With this victory, Kizzire not only clinched the Procore Championship title but also earned a PGA Tour card for the next two years. This win also secured his spots in prestigious events like the Masters, PGA Championship, and The Sentry at Kapalua.
Throughout the tournament, Kizzire displayed resilience, despite some misfires off the tee. He managed to stay steady with his approach shots, recording three birdies, an eagle, and three bogeys to finish at 20-under 268.
Reflecting on his performance, Kizzire shared, “I knew that it would be difficult not to get ahead of myself with a four-shot lead heading into today. I wrote down in my yard book, ‘I am here, I am now.’ Kept going back to that. That helped me be disciplined and stay present. That’s what really helped me come out on top.”
David Lipsky secured the second position after a commendable display with a score of 71, while Patrick Fishburn finished in third place at 14 under.
In a spectacular event that unfolded against the backdrop of Napa Valley wine country, the tournament saw Kizzire and Lipsky play in front of a small crowd. Despite the challenges posed by erratic tee shots, Kizzire’s resilience and determination shone through, ultimately leading him to a remarkable victory.
It was a tough battle on the course, with Lipsky also facing challenges off the tee amidst swirling winds and firm greens. However, Kizzire’s unwavering performance, including a crucial eagle on the par-5 fifth, helped him maintain a significant lead throughout the final round.
With this victory, Patton Kizzire not only marked the end of his victory drought but also etched his name in the annals of golf history as a resilient and determined champion.
