Welcome Back, Roadrunners: UTSA Students Return for Fall 2024 Semester

SAN ANTONIO – Monday marked the beginning of the fall 2024 semester for UTSA students, with an estimated 35,000 students re-enrolled for their classes.

Among the various degree programs offered at UTSA, biology stands out as one of the most popular choices, with roughly 2,300 students currently enrolled in the program.

Mariah Hopkins, the assistant chair of integrative biology at UTSA, emphasized the program’s focus on preparing students for impactful careers in the community.

Hopkins stated, “One of our goals is to graduate career-ready scientists who can contribute to our workforce, strengthen our communities, and support industries here in Texas. Whether they’re working in a lab with cells, genes, and proteins or exploring nature with animals and ecosystems, our graduates are equipped for diverse roles.”

UTSA has established partnerships with local industries, healthcare agencies, and research labs to facilitate seamless transitions from education to employment, ensuring that San Antonio retains its local talent pool.

Hopkins highlighted, “Ninety percent of our graduates choose to work in Texas, close to their home, contributing to the growth and advancement of our state.”

The biology program at UTSA has seen a surge in interest, partly attributed to the pandemic and local initiatives encouraging students to pursue STEM-related fields.
