Israel Strikes Kill 32, Including Women and Children, in Gaza
DEIR EL-BALAH – Israeli strikes killed at least 32 people in southern Gaza overnight, mostly women and children, as the military launched ground operations in the hard-hit city of Khan Younis, Palestinian medical officials said Wednesday.
Israel has continued to strike what it says are militant targets across Gaza nearly a year after Hamas’ attack last October ignited the war, even as attention has shifted to Lebanon and Iran.
In a separate development, Hezbollah said its fighters clashed with Israeli troops in the Lebanese border town of Odaisseh, forcing them to retreat.
Residents said Israel carried out heavy airstrikes and ground operations in Khan Younis, causing widespread destruction and casualties among civilians.
Hospitals reported receiving bodies of women and children killed in the attacks, and the European Hospital in Khan Younis confirmed the high number of casualties.
Israel’s military did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the situation.
The escalating conflict has led to a significant loss of life and displacement of residents in Gaza and southern Lebanon.
The U.N. Security Council has called an emergency meeting to address the situation in the region.
