The anticipation for a brand new football season is palpable at every high school across the nation. However, when the first game pits you against your biggest rival, there’s an added level of intensity and excitement in the air.
The O’Connor Panthers are gearing up to kick off their season against the rival Brandeis on August 29 at 7 p.m. at Ferris Stadium.
While the team is motivated to improve upon last year’s 3-7 record, there’s an added sense of significance in facing off against their heated rival right out of the gate.
Senior defensive lineman Erik Castillo expressed, “It’s truly special, playing with these guys since middle school. It’s personal.”
Senior tight end Zachary Godby added, “Playing in front of thousands of fans at the Alamodome, feeling the atmosphere and lights, it feels great.”
Head coach David Malesky emphasized the excitement of a new season combined with the thrill of facing a rival, saying, “It adds that much more enthusiasm to our early morning practices.”
