SAN ANTONIO – Concerns have been raised about the quality of milk being served to students in two school districts this week.
Officials from Northside ISD and San Antonio ISD have both responded to reports of bad strawberry milk being served in cafeterias.
Barry Perez, assistant superintendent for Communications & Marketing with NISD, stated, “Our Child Nutrition Department received concerns about the Strawberry Milk served on Tuesday. As a precaution, all schools were instructed to stop serving this milk immediately.”
Laura Short, chief communications officer with SAISD, also confirmed a similar incident, saying, “We received a report from one of our schools regarding a student receiving milk with a different consistency. Child Nutrition Services was alerted, and the affected batch of milk was removed from all schools.”
Short mentioned that the milk had not expired, and the district is waiting for the vendor to address the issue. The identity of the vendor is currently unknown.
Perez disclosed that Oak Farms Dairy supplies milk to NISD, and efforts to obtain a comment from the dairy farm have been unsuccessful.
Both districts are actively investigating the situation and have ceased serving strawberry milk until further notice.
